Low / No Cost Promotion Strategies

In the current economic climate, many businesses are looking for lower cost promotion strategies.

Luckily for WebFertile there is a wide range of online promotion methods that fall into this category.  These are grass-roots, affordable marketing strategies that can be tailored to your business model with just a pinch of creativity.

The caveat here is time.... while they can be done for free, what you save in cash you may spend in creative hours.  Some recommend setting aside a morning per week to work on these kind of strategies.

Facebook / MySpace

For those who don't know, Facebook and MySpace are 'profile' website that make it a doddle to network and interact with your colleagues / friends / clients.

Just browsing around these sites and seeing what other people have done should give you some idea of how they can be used.  If you're still stuck for ideas, do a Google search for 'promote my business on facebook' - there's plenty written on the topic.

Video

Access to digital video recording and the range of editing software now available allows a small business to create a wider range of videos more easily than ever before.

Just imagine - the video could be anything you want it to be. For example:

  • Tutorial or instructions
  • Company advertisement
  • A speech
  • Customer / client testimonials
  • Comedy

If you have thousands to spend on a top quality production all the better. But even without cash (replace that with a bit of thought, creativity and time to play) you can still create a production that helps to sell and market your product, service or brand.

The key is to make your video interesting, useful, funny or quirky. Make people eager to share them., and tell their friends. Then to post your video on sharing sites like YouTube and Blip.tv

(They even give you a small piece of code that allows you to publish the video on your own website - fully compatible with the WebFertile self-edit system).

Be warned, there are LOTS of companies doing this. Your video will have to be funnier, quirkier, more interesting or more useful than the rest!

Audio

All of the above also goes for audio recordings.

You can back these with images to create a video for sharing on youtube or blip.  Or you can promote it as audio - for example, using it as a podcast or placing it prominently on your website.  Also check out odeo.com.

Email Newsletter

If you haven't already done so, we recommend creating an email newsletter to distribute to your customers or clients.

Creating good content, special offers and adding a 'forward to friend' tool means they are more likely to be read and forwarded to prospective new clients.

And as with video, the more interesting, useful and quirky you can make it, the better.
